While the treatment can but somewhat uncomfortable our team at Chapel Health will engage a variety of comfort measures to ensure the best possible experience. Additionally, your clinician will frequently ask you to rate your level of discomfort, and treatment adjustments will be made accordingly with your input. You will feel heat and some pressure. Compared with CO2 lasers, many find Genius much more tolerable.

Some of our comfort measures include: 

• High-concentration BLT topical numbing cream will be applied an hour prior to the treatment
• Non-pharmacological measures throughout your experience

There is an initial redness and swelling which substantially subsides after 24-36 hours. It can take up to a week for this to completely resolve. Most people resume normal activities within 48 hours.

Unlike many other procedures, Genius has long-lasting results since it is your own body that is at work. The effects could last for years.

You can expect to see some changes as soon as a day or two after the procedure. However, your body will continue to rebuild the collagen and elastin for several weeks after that, so you will see improvement over the next six months.

Depending on the area being treated, it can take up to 2.5 hours for one area

(numbing time included). More time is needed for additional areas. Your clinician will discuss your goals which will determine the length and number of treatments you will need. Many see results after just 1 treatment but it typically takes 3 treatments to get optimal results as opposed to 6 treatments as with many other treatments.

You will feel some heat and tingling as the laser is passed over the skin. The number of passes and procedure time will depend on the depth of treatment, lasting anywhere from 5-20 minutes. For mild treatments, the discomfort is very minimal. For more aggressive treatments, your clinician may apply a numbing cream 30-45 minutes before the treatment to maximize your comfort. 

Immediately following the treatment, you will notice some redness, which will lessen over the next day or so. The following 5-6 days, your skin will have a dry, sandpaper-like texture. This is normal and will resolve as your skin exfoliates, revealing fresher, clearer skin.

While there will be some visible redness right after the treatment, you will be able to immediately resume your normal activities.
